Wheatfields Inc. is seeking passionate and suitably skilled people to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help guide the organisation through an exciting period of growth.
Wheatfields is a community-owned, not-for-profit residential aged care provider located in Freeling, South Australia. We provide care, support and connection to older people and their families across Freeling and the surrounding region.
We are undertaking a significant redevelopment that will increase our residential capacity from 53 to 72 rooms. This growth will enable us to support more older people, create local employment and training opportunities, and strengthen aged care services within our community.

About the role
As a volunteer Board Director, you will work collaboratively with fellow Directors, the Chief Executive Officer and executive team to provide effective governance and strategic oversight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to Wheatfields’ strategic direction and long-term sustainability.
- Monitoring organisational performance, quality, safety, risk and financial stewardship.
- Supporting strong clinical, corporate and consumer-centred governance.
- Reviewing Board papers and participating in informed decision-making.
- Ensuring Wheatfields meets its legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities.
- Representing the interests of Wheatfields, its residents and the community.
- Participating in a Board committee, strategic planning and governance education.
- Applying independent judgement while working respectfully and constructively with fellow Directors and management.
Board meetings are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 11:00 am–1:00 pm in Freeling. Directors must also allow time to review Board papers and may participate in committee meetings, training and occasional planning sessions or events.
Who we are looking for
We welcome expressions of interest from people who share Wheatfields’ commitment to older people, community service and high-quality care.
Applicants may bring experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Board governance and strategic planning
- Aged care, health or clinical governance
- Finance, accounting, audit or investment
- Law, compliance or risk management
- Human resources, workforce planning or industrial relations
- Property development, construction or project management
- Information technology, cybersecurity or digital transformation
- Marketing, fundraising, communications or community engagement
- Regional development, government or community services
Previous Board experience is not essential. We also welcome emerging Directors who can offer relevant professional expertise, sound judgement, strong values and a willingness to undertake governance education.
