Pets as Visitors!

Anglicare

Logo for Anglicare

We have residents at our care homes who would enjoy a visit by an Aged Care friendly dog or cat and their owner.

You will need a letter from your vet stating that he/she is of the right disposition to engage with the elderly [not barky/snappy/jumpy] and also a copy of your pet's current vaccination status. The pet must be able to pass the Public Access Test (PAT) for assistance animals i.e.

• Being non-aggressive • Obeying commands • Being quiet (not barking) • Having experience in real-life situations • Being calm in confined and crowded spaces • Being calm in noisy and stressful situations

You could come in as often as you like but preferably weekly so that the residents get familiar with you & your wonderful animal.

Volunteers will receive excellent support from our dedicated staff and should find your time volunteering personally rewarding as well. Our residents are incredible individuals with rich stories and life experiences that they often enjoy sharing during activity times. They are always eager to connect, as time spent with visitors brings joy and enriches their lives.

You must be over 18 years of age to apply for this role.
