AusUnityAid is a not-for-profit community services organisation dedicated to supporting multicultural and CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities across Victoria and NSW, with a strong focus on African-Australian families. Founded with a vision to create a more inclusive and equitable society for minority and marginalised communities, we believe everyone deserves access to safe housing, quality education, mental health support, and culturally appropriate care, regardless of their background.
Our services span family support, mental health support, case management, youth mentorship, settlement support for newly arrived migrants and refugees, housing support, and out-of-home care, among others. As a migrant-founded organisation, we understand firsthand the barriers migrant and refugee communities face in navigating a new country and our work is guided by the principle of "Turning Empathy Into Action."
Guided by a passionate and dedicated Board and grounded in our core values of cultural respect, compassion, empowerment, and community-driven action, we walk alongside hundreds of families, youth, and individuals across Victoria and NSW every year, helping them move forward with dignity, stability, and a genuine sense of belonging.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a caring and skilled Volunteer Social Worker to join our team and help us extend our reach and impact. This is a chance to use your professional skills for real community good, working alongside a supportive team who share your values.
Key Duties
- Provide direct, culturally responsive case management and support to clients from CALD, migrant, and refugee backgrounds
- Conduct needs assessments and develop tailored, trauma-informed support plans
- Support clients accessing family support, mental health, settlement, or housing services
- Connect clients with relevant external services, referrals, and community resources
- Offer emotional support and practical guidance to individuals and families facing hardship or navigating a new country
- Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and documentation
- Collaborate with other volunteers, staff, and the Board to improve service delivery
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to program development
Skills & Experience Needed
- Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field (or working towards one)
- Prior experience in a social work, community services, or welfare setting preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Sound understanding of confidentiality, ethics, and professional boundaries
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Genuine passion for community welfare, cultural inclusion, and social justice
- Cultural sensitivity and, ideally, lived experience or familiarity with migrant, refugee, or CALD communities
