Citizen Advocacy connects people with disability with voluntary members of the local community.

We are looking for someone to be a friend and advocate for Jen, a gentle woman who lives independently and enjoys crafts and animals. Jen has an intellectual disability and experiences memory difficulties, and currently has very few independent people in her life.

Jen would benefit from someone friendly, patient and reliable who is willing to spend time getting to know her and build a genuine relationship over time.

As Jen’s advocate, the main focus is building trust and being someone consistent in her life. This might mean spending time together, sharing an interest, having a chat or getting out into the community.

At times, it may also include supporting Jen to have her say, helping her understand her options or standing alongside her when dealing with services or making decisions.

No formal qualifications are required. Experience with memory loss may be helpful, but it is not essential. What matters most is a genuine interest in getting to know Jen and being willing to stay involved over the longer term.

Orientation, training and ongoing support will be provided by Citizen Advocacy Launceston.

If you enjoy crafts, animals or simply spending time with someone and building a genuine friendship, we would love to hear from you.

For more information, please contact Citizen Advocacy Launceston on 03 6331 2177.
