The Yarra Valley Wool & Handicrafts Show is growing, and we’d love some wonderful people from our community to grow with us!

Our annual Woolshow brings together thousands of visitors, independent makers and small businesses, guilds and community groups for a celebration of yarn, fibre, creativity and all things handmade.

In 2027, we’re moving to our new home at the Yarra Ranges Civic Centre in Lilydale, and we’re looking to build a friendly and welcoming team of volunteers to help us bring the Show to life.

How you can get involved

There are lots of ways to volunteer with us, depending on your interests, availability and how involved you’d like to be.

In the lead-up to the Woolshow, opportunities may include:

  • Helping at community fundraising activities, including Bunnings sausage sizzles
  • Preparing event materials, signage and volunteer packs
  • Helping assemble our popular Stashbags
  • Assisting with small community activities and promotions
  • General event preparation and practical tasks

On Woolshow day, roles may include:

  • Welcoming visitors and helping with entry
  • Providing information and directions
  • Supporting stallholders and exhibitors
  • Assisting at our Information Hubs
  • Helping with classes, activities and other areas around the event
  • General event support and helping us keep the day running smoothly

You don’t need to be a knitter, crocheter or fibre expert to volunteer with us. We’re looking for friendly, reliable people who enjoy being part of their community and are happy to lend a hand.

How much time do I need to give?

As much or as little as works for you.

Some opportunities are just a 2–3 hour shift, while others may be a half or full day. You might join us for one community fundraiser, help with a few things in the lead-up, volunteer on Woolshow day – or do a little bit of everything.

There’s no expectation of an ongoing weekly commitment.

Most importantly, we want volunteering with the Woolshow to be enjoyable, social and rewarding. We’re a community-run event and genuinely value the time our volunteers choose to give us.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, we’d love to hear from you!
