Football Operations & Administration Volunteer

Want to gain hands-on experience behind the scenes of a local football club?
South Melbourne Districts Football Club is looking for multiple volunteers to join our Football Operations and Administration team for at least one football season.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all role, we can tailor opportunities around your interests, existing skills and the areas you’d most like to develop. This could particularly suit students, recent graduates or anyone looking to gain practical experience in sports management, administration or football operations.
What you could work on
Depending on your interests, you could gain experience across areas such as:
- Player and team administration
- Registrations and competition requirements
- Match-day and football operations
- Team and coach communications
- Fixtures, schedules and logistics
- Player recruitment and enquiries
- Data entry, record keeping and general administration
- Supporting club and committee projects
- Developing or improving administrative processes and systems.
You won’t necessarily be expected to do all of these. We’d like to understand what you want to get out of the experience and identify responsibilities and projects that suit both you and the needs of the club.
What you’ll get from the role
You’ll gain genuine experience in how a community football club operates behind the scenes, with the opportunity to take responsibility for your own areas of work rather than simply observing.
You’ll be supported by experienced members of the club, while having opportunities to build your skills, contribute ideas and improve the way we do things. For volunteers who make an ongoing contribution, we can also provide professional references and experience to add to your CV or resume.
You’ll also become part of the South Melbourne Districts community, building connections with players, coaches, volunteers and committee members across the club. There is no requirement to be a player or have previously been involved in football.
