Refrigerated Truck Driver and Assistant – Food Relief Collections

Hornsby Connect provides low‑cost groceries and food relief to people experiencing hardship across the Hornsby region. Our refrigerated truck and van collections are essential to keeping our shelves stocked with fresh produce, pantry staples, and donated goods. We’re seeking reliable volunteers—both Drivers and Driver Assistants—who enjoy being on the road and want to make a direct, practical difference in their community.
Key Responsibilities – Driver
- Drive the Hornsby Connect refrigerated truck or van on scheduled Tuesday collection runs (standard car licence is sufficient).
- Collect food donations from partners including Foodbank, Woolworths, OneMeal, local supermarkets, and bakeries.
- Load and unload stock safely, including crates, boxes, and fresh produce.
- Follow collection schedules to ensure timely pickups and smooth handover to the operations team.
- Complete basic vehicle checks (fuel, cleanliness, reporting any issues).
- Represent Hornsby Connect professionally and maintain positive relationships with donors and partners.
- Support warehouse volunteers by moving stock into the storeroom when needed.
Key Responsibilities – Driver Assistant
- Accompany the Driver on Tuesday collection runs.
- Assist with loading and unloading crates, boxes, and fresh produce.
- Help organise and secure stock in the vehicle.
- Support communication with donors and partners during pickups.
- Assist with deliveries for the monthly Community Table event.
- Provide an extra set of hands to ensure safe lifting, efficient workflow, and smooth operations.
What We’re Looking For
- Drivers: A full, valid driver’s licence (standard car licence is fine).
- Driver Assistants: No licence required—just willingness to help and be part of the team.
- Good physical fitness for lifting and moving stock.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a calm, friendly manner.
- Ability to follow a set route and work independently or as part of a small team.
- Commitment to treating all donors, volunteers, and clients with dignity and respect.
What You’ll Gain
- A meaningful way to support people doing it tough in your local community.
- A friendly, supportive volunteer team.
- The satisfaction of knowing your efforts directly help families in need each week.
