Relationships Australia - Tasmania

Advertised by Volunteering Tasmania

At Relationships Australia Tasmania, we believe in the power of connection.

We are looking for warm, caring and reliable people to volunteer as Aged Care Volunteer Visitors, providing friendship and companionship to older people who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation.

As a Volunteer Visitor, you will be matched with an older person and visit them at least once a fortnight for around one hour. Your visits might involve having a chat over a cup of tea, sharing stories and interests, playing a game, going for a walk or simply enjoying some company.

It is a simple commitment that can make a genuine difference to someone's life.

About you

You don't need previous aged care experience. What matters most is your ability to connect with people and your genuine interest in making a difference.

We are looking for people who are:

• friendly, approachable and good listeners • empathetic, respectful and culturally sensitive • reliable and able to commit to regular visits for at least 12 months • comfortable working independently • trustworthy and able to maintain privacy, confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.

What we offer

You will receive an induction, training and ongoing support. You will also have the opportunity to build a meaningful connection with an older person and contribute to reducing loneliness in your community.

What you need to know

Volunteer appointments are subject to:

• a satisfactory National Police Check • a current volunteer Working with Vulnerable People registration for Child Related Activity • two character references • completion of required training and induction • a Statutory Declaration where required • meeting any applicable public health or vaccination requirements.

This is a friendship and companionship role. Volunteers do not provide personal or nursing care, handle money, access care records or replace the work of aged care staff.

One hour. Once a fortnight. One meaningful connection. It can make a world of difference.

This program is delivered by Relationships Australia Tasmania and funded by the Australian Government, ACVVS connects volunteers with older Tasmanians to build meaningful friendships and reduce social isolation.
