Volunteer Kitchen Hands - MACASA Ridleyton

Be part of something bigger – help nourish and connect our senior community

The Maltese Aged Care Association of South Australia (MACASA) is looking for Volunteer Kitchen Hands who'd like to make an ongoing contribution to the wellbeing of older people in our community.

At MACASA, our meal service is more than food. Every week our kitchen prepares more than 700 meals. For many of our senior clients, each one represents comfort, cultural connection, dignity, and the ability to keep living independently at home. Behind every meal delivered is a committed kitchen team ensuring it is prepared with care and respect.

The Role

Our kitchen is at the Arch Paterson Centre in Ridleyton and operates Monday to Friday. We are close to Torrens Road buses and there is free parking on site.

You choose one or more regular weekday mornings starting 8am and usually finishing between 12 and 1pm.

As a Volunteer Kitchen Hand, you will:

  • Assist with preparing fresh vegetables and ingredients
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene through dishwashing and cleaning
  • Support safe and efficient meal packing
  • Help prepare equipment for daily meal deliveries
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and well-organised kitchen environment

This role suits someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and likes the rhythm of a regular weekly routine. If you're the kind of person who shows up when you say you will and enjoys being part of a friendly crew that gets the job done together, you'll fit right in.

What to Expect

  • We ask volunteers to commit to at least one regular morning a week for six months or more, so our kitchen and clients can count on a familiar team
  • No kitchen experience needed – we'll train you
  • Comfortable standing for several hours and doing some light lifting
  • National Police Check required – arranged and paid for by MACASA
  • Maltese speakers especially welcome, but not required – everyone is welcome in our kitchen
  • All volunteers are required to attend annual Food Safety and Manual Handling training to ensure best practice and compliance. Training is provided and supported by our team

Why Volunteer with MACASA?

  • Make a tangible impact – every meal prepared supports an older person’s health and independence
  • Be part of a purpose-driven organisation serving the community since 1994
  • Gain practical skills in food preparation, hygiene, teamwork, and kitchen operations
  • Join a friendly, regular crew who look forward to seeing each other each week
  • Receive a small honorarium for each shift you attend

If you are someone who wants to give back in a way that is practical, valued, and truly needed, we would love to hear from you.

📞 Contact MACASA today on (08) 8241 0266 or [email protected] to discuss joining our kitchen team. We'll have a quick chat, show you around, and arrange a trial shift.
