The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology is a treasure trove of world history, housing around 4,500 objects that span over a million years of human history. As a vital cultural hub, we enrich our local community by welcoming thousands of visitors each year, including more than 10,000 students from over 150 schools. From school holiday activities and guided tours to hosting the spectacular annual Abbey Medieval Festival (which attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the region) our public programs connect people of all ages to the magic of the past. Volunteers are truly the heart and soul of everything we do. Our vibrant volunteer program keeps the museum running and offers hands-on training across a wide range of departments, including education, gardening, sewing, woodwork, café operations and more. Whether you want to share your love of history, learn a new skill, or give back to the community, the Abbey Museum provides a supportive, social environment where your expertise and contribution can really make a difference.
