You will be working with a small team in a supervised, supported environment. You don’t need to be a teacher – a delight in talking with kids is the main skill we are seeking. Our Schools Team lead school activities in the Museum, as well as running off-site programs through our History on the Move trailer

    TThe Cairns Historical Society is a not-for-profit Incorporated Association, formed in 1958 to record, preserve and promote the history of Far North Queensland. Today the Society manages a nationally significant collection of over 70,000 items. The Archives Section manages a collection of about 40,000 books, maps and other documents, with probably half as many again waiting to be catalogued. The Research Centre provides access to this collection to researchers, including the general public.

Tasks include ticket and retail sales, visitor greeting, orientation and assistance, telephone inquiries and direction. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday, and two receptionists are usually rostered to work together. Operating the gift shop attached to the reception area will also be part of the role.
