    Sydney Heritage Fleet owns world-famous barque James Craig a fully rigged iron ship built 1874. From a rusted skeletal hulk in Recherche Bay Tasmania, she has been completely rebuilt by the volunteers at Sydney Heritage Fleet and now makes harbour and ocean voyages for the public often setting all of her 21 sails. Keeping her seaworthy needs constant attention , to paintwork, woodwork, rigging and deck caulking. We need you to join the happy team who carry out this work regularly on the ship.

    The Sydney Heritage Fleet Workshops in Rozelle Bay is a busy hive of activity. Our main restoration project is steamer John Oxley, and there are many regularly used vessels on which maintenance is essential. You will find yourself in a very happy friendly work environment where there are no cliques or feuds or jealousies. Just the keen desire to have the joy of having a productive day.

    Sydney Heritage Fleet owns, restores and operates historic steam ships, sailing ships and many smaller launches. Our current major project is the restoration to full ocean-going condition of John Oxley a former Moreton Bay pilot steamer, 760 tons. You, the volunteer will be a skilled welder and steel fabricator to aid in the final stages of hull restoration, particularly the forecastle. Your team leader is gentle giant whose welding surpasses marine standard for boiler work.

    This bushcare group is supported by Lane Cove National Park and Macquarie University. It meets on the third Saturday morning of each month so our next date will be June 15. Work is along Mars Creek, a hidden gem of the Lane Cove National Park and involves removing weeds so that native plants will regenerate, improving the biodiversity of the park.
