St John Ambulance QLD is looking for a Greek speaking volunteer for our Community Visitor Program where volunteers visit an elderly resident for an hour, once a fortnight in Greenbank. As a Community Visitor Volunteer, your visits may include a conversation, reading or sharing a simple activity together such as listening or playing music.
Pets for Life Volunteers provide practical support as guided by the owner in the care of their companion animal. The role is two-fold in that while assisting to maintain the animal’s welfare, volunteers will also be interacting with and become a support/contact for the older person. Isolation of the older person will be dramatically reduced through the volunteer visits and interaction around the animal’s care.
We are holding a new fundraiser at the school that will include music, dancing, food and entertainment for the community. The event is a more formal event starting with champagne and canapes while being serenaded by a pianist, moving down to the oval, where parties will be shown to their designated tables while a jazz band plays and dinner is served, finishing off with a rock band and some dancing, all while having games, entertainers and auctions happening throughout.
We are looking for friendly people who are interested in making a difference in the lives of our community’s seniors by regularly visiting and becoming a social friend living in their own homes at Taringa. In this particular role, a friendly British man at Taringa would like a volunteer visitor to join him for chats about football and a game of Lego. He would love some basic technology assistance (support in operating the computer, TV and phone) too.
