Pets for Life Volunteers provide practical support as guided by the owner in the care of their companion animal. The role is two-fold in that while assisting to maintain the animal’s welfare, volunteers will also be interacting with and become a support/contact for the older person. Isolation of the older person will be dramatically reduced through the volunteer visits and interaction around the animal’s care.

This gentleman is a kind-hearted and intelligent man living in an aged care facility on the Oakland’s Park area. Despite facing challenges such as brain injury and cancer, he remains a lovely and gentle soul. Unlike many residents, he enjoys discussing topics beyond the ordinary and loves listening to Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping St Mary’s House of Welcome (SMHOW) achieve its mission and provide invaluable support across many areas of the organisation. Our kitchen prepares and serves food for the SMHOW service users so that they can enjoy a nutritious meal which they otherwise may not be able to access. Volunteer drivers are required for weekly shifts to pick up donated food in the St Mary's House of Welcome van.
