    The Driving Support Volunteer provides side by side guidance, reassurance and supervision learner drivers completing their compulsory supervised driving hours. Young people supported by this program will be residents of youth crisis accommodation facilities in the Port Adelaide region. The volunteer may be actively involved in assisting with the review and of continuous improvement strategies.

    Volunteers play a key role with the department and are a valuable part of the child protection system. Volunteers must be aged 18 or older and must undergo a DHS Working with Children Check.     Mentoring of young people to complete 50 hours of supervised car driving experience. An automatic RYDE vehicle which is comprehensively insured, maintained and has a fuel card is provided. The RYDE car is based at Geographe Leisure Centre. There is no formal age range of volunteer mentors, as long as you have a current licence, can drive safely and have a good understanding of road rules.

The Merri-bek TAC L2P Program assists young learner drivers (aged between 16-21) who have no access to a supervising driver or vehicle, to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence. Volunteer mentors support young people to gain supervised driving experience in an L2P car - no cost to young people or volunteers. Volunteers undertake comprehensive VicRoads training.
