Having good social connections is essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) and Volunteer Visitors program supports older Australian’s who live in an aged care facility or their own home and who are lonely or socially isolated.
The Regional Engagement Volunteer is a dynamic and fun role that supports other volunteers, both new and existing with training and social events, speaks with local groups, community services and media to build awareness of Red Cross aged and community care services available and helps share and celebrate the impact our volunteers make every day of the year.

Since its inception, the “Ben’s Place” pantry has grown to become a lifeline for countless individuals and families facing financial hardships, providing them with access to nutritious food and essential supplies. Over 400 households visit the pantry each week, including pensioners, people with disabilities, veterans, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families with young children and people who are homeless. Coonara Community House is a not for profit organisation that offers affordable or no cost programs to upskill, reskill and socialise. Located in Upper Ferntree Gully we offer over 70 different classes, courses, workshops, recreational groups and activities to the community each term.
The key role of community connector volunteers in this project is to assist with enabling socially isolated people (primarily 65+) who have been referred from a range of services, including health practitioners, to determine what community activities they would like to participate in and overcome any barriers to participation.
